Raja Chen Singh of Bahanpur
Raja Chen Singh Pilania was the ruler of the princely state of Bahanpur from 1769 until his death in 1787. He belonged to the Pilania dynasty and succeeded his father, Raja Khem Singh Pilania, as ruler of the state. His reign is chiefly remembered for the defence of Bahanpur against Afghan incursions during the late eighteenth century.
Early life
Raja Chen Singh Pilania was born into the ruling Pilania family of Bahanpur as the son of Raja Khem Singh Pilania. He was raised within the traditions of the ruling house and was prepared for the responsibilities of governance and military leadership.
Reign
Following the death of his father, Raja Khem Singh Pilania, Chen Singh Pilania ascended the throne of Bahanpur in 1769. During his reign, he worked to maintain the stability and security of the principality amid the political and military challenges of the period.
As ruler, he upheld the authority of the Pilania dynasty and sought to preserve the independence and territorial integrity of Bahanpur. Traditional accounts describe him as a capable leader who placed particular emphasis on the defence of his state.
Death
In 1787, Raja Chen Singh Pilania was killed while leading the defence of Bahanpur against invading Afghan forces. According to historical traditions associated with the Pilania dynasty, he died in battle after successfully resisting the invasion and protecting the region from foreign occupation.
Family and succession
Raja Chen Singh Pilania was the son of Raja Khem Singh Pilania and the father of Raja Shankar Singh Pilania. Following his death in 1787, he was succeeded by his son, who continued the rule of the Pilania dynasty in Bahanpur.
