Nandiya (नान्दिया) is an ancient town in tahsil Pindwara in Sirohi district in Rajasthan.

Location

Nandiya is a village located in Pindwara tehsil of Sirohi district in Rajasthan, India. It is situated 15km away from sub-district headquarter Pindwara in west.

Nandipura (नान्दीपुर) is mentioned by Panini in Ashtadhyayi.

History

V. S. Agrawala writes that Panini mentions Pura (IV.2.122) ending names of towns like Nandipura (Nāndīpura) (IV.2.104) - Patanjali mentions as Vahikagrama.

Its antiquity goes back to 11th century. This name also occurs in manuscript of Parshvanathacharita of Ranasimha dated V.S. 1436. It also mentions the great Mahavira temple of this place.

Jain History

[p.145]: Nandiya lies at about 6 miles from Sajjanpur road railway station. Present name is distortion of the earlier name which appears in old manuscripts and other literary sources as Nandigram, as well as Nandipur and Nandivardhanpur. The village is surrounded by high ranges of the hills. There is a big Jain temple dedicated to Mahavir in the Northern side of the village containing an inscription dated Vikram 1130 (1073 AD). It records the construction of a step well near the Nandiyaka-Chaitys by a man called Shivgana. This clearly implies that the temple was built before that date. There are other inscriptions in the temple; one of them is dated Vikram 1201 (1144 AD) incised on a pillar of the Sabha Mandapa, and records the construction of the pillar by shreshthi Nimba and Bhepa. The temple was in worship from the 11th century AD. The Parshvanath-Charitra composed in Vikram 1436 (1379) reports that the Mahaveer temple of Nandiya, consisted of a highly elevated plan. [p.146]: Dated Vikram 1210 (1154 AD) which was brought from Dhanera. There are several inscriptions dated Vikram 1253, 1493, 1521, 1528, 1529, 1545 etc in the two temples of Mahavir and Siddharth.

नांदिया

राजस्थान मे जैन धर्म की उपस्थिती का प्रथम संकेत (इतिहास) श्री नांदिया तीर्थ से मिलता है। कहा जाता है कि नंदिग्राम नंदिवर्धनपुर नंदिपुर आदि प्राचीन नाम से प्रसिद्ध गाँव तीर्थंकर महावीर के ज्येष्ठभ्राता नंदिवर्धन ने बसाया। एक कहावत प्रसिद्ध है - "नाणा, दियाणा नांदिया, जीवित स्वामी जुहांरिया" अर्थात इस मंदिर का निर्माण तीर्थंकर महावीर के जीवनकाल मे हुआ था। इसका पूर्वनाम नंदियक चैत्य था। कहा जाता है कि तीर्थंकर महावीर द्वारा चंडकौशिक नाग यहाँ प्रतिबोधित किया था। श्री मंदिर के मूलनायक तीर्थंकर महावीर हैं। निर्वाण काल श्री वीर निर्वाण संवत 2540 वर्ष से पूर्व का है यह तीर्थ पो. नांदिया, जिला सिरोही, राजस्थान मे है ।
