Gochhi

Gochhi (गोछी) is a village in Jhajjar district, Haryana, 22 km from Rohtak. The village is famous for providing a very large number of officers for the Indian Army. Beri, Seria, Dhandhlaan and Dighal are neighbouring villages.

पाँच पीढ़ियाँ, एक रेजिमेंट—अहलावत परिवार की 140 साल पुरानी सैन्य विरासत

यह तस्वीर सिर्फ एक पिता-पुत्र के गर्व का क्षण नहीं, बल्कि भारतीय सैन्य इतिहास की एक असाधारण परंपरा का प्रतीक है।

गोच्छी, हरियाणा के अहलावत परिवार की लगातार पाँच पीढ़ियों ने एक ही कैवेलरी रेजिमेंट—1 हॉर्स (स्किनर्स हॉर्स)—में अधिकारी के रूप में सेवा की है।

इस गौरवशाली परंपरा की शुरुआत लेफ्टिनेंट शौचंद अहलावत (1886–1918) से हुई। उन्होंने अफगानिस्तान में अभियानों के साथ-साथ 1900 के बॉक्सर विद्रोह और प्रथम विश्व युद्ध में भी सेवा की। उनके बाद उनके पुत्र कैप्टन दरयाव सिंह अहलावत (1918–1948) ने द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध में अपनी सेवाएँ दीं।

तीसरी पीढ़ी के लेफ्टिनेंट कर्नल शमशेर सिंह अहलावत (1955–1982) ने 1961 के गोवा मुक्ति अभियान तथा 1965 और 1971 के भारत-पाक युद्धों में हिस्सा लिया। 1965 के युद्ध में वे घायल भी हुए।

चौथी पीढ़ी के कर्नल संदीप अहलावत ने 1993 में स्किनर्स हॉर्स जॉइन किया। उन्होंने कारगिल युद्ध (ऑपरेशन विजय) और पूर्वोत्तर में आतंकवाद-रोधी अभियानों में सेवा दी तथा बाद में इसी रेजिमेंट की कमान भी संभाली। वर्ष 2014 की प्रकाशित रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, उन्हें एक ही रेजिमेंट में लगातार चार पीढ़ियों की सैन्य सेवा के लिए Limca Book of National Records में दर्ज किया गया था। और अब...

5 सितंबर 2026 को लेफ्टिनेंट शिवम अहलावत के 1 हॉर्स (स्किनर्स हॉर्स) में कमीशन होने के साथ यह विरासत पाँचवीं पीढ़ी तक पहुँच गई।

करीब 140 वर्षों से चली आ रही यह सैन्य परंपरा सिर्फ एक परिवार की कहानी नहीं है यह कर्तव्य, साहस, त्याग और रेजिमेंट के प्रति अटूट निष्ठा की कहानी है।

Five Generations, One Regiment: The Ahlawat Family Creates Military History

In a remarkable chapter in India’s Military History, the Ahlawat family is set to achieve a rare distinction: five consecutive generations serving as officers in the legendary 1 Horse (Skinner’s Horse), one of the Indian Army’s oldest and most distinguished Cavalry Regiments, raised on February the 23rd 1803.

The family’s association with Skinner’s Horse began with Lt Sheochand Ahlawat (1886–1918), who served in Afghanistan, participated in the Boxer Rebellion in China, and fought in the First World War. The tradition was carried forward by his son, Capt Daryao Singh Ahlawat (1918–1948), a veteran of the Second World War.

The third generation, Lt Col Shamsher Singh Ahlawat (1955–1982), took part in the Liberation of Goa and the Indo-Pak Wars of 1965 and 1971, sustaining serious injuries in the battle. The mantle then passed on to the fourth generation, Col Sandeep Ahlawat (1993–2026), who served with distinction during the Kargil conflict and counter-insurgency operations in the Northeast, and later had the honour of commanding Skinner’s Horse. His distinction as the fourth consecutive generation of the family to serve in the same regiment was recognised by the Limca Book of National Records.

Now, the extraordinary tradition is poised to enter its fifth generation. Lieutenant Shivam Ahlawat is commissioned in the 1 Horse Cavalry Regiment (Skinner’s Horse) today on 5 September 2026, carrying forward a military legacy that began 140 years ago.

Spanning five generations and 140 years, the Ahlawat family’s enduring association with a single regiment is an extraordinary testament to courage, sacrifice, duty, and regimental pride. From the battlefields of the two World Wars to the conflicts and operations of independent India, each generation has taken forward the legacy entrusted to it by the one before.

The family now hopes that this exceptional achievement will find its rightful place in the Guinness Book of World Records, adding another chapter to a remarkable story of service to the nation.

Avtar Singh Ahlawat (04.09.1950 - 2006) (Second Lt) was from Gochhi village in Jhajjar district in Haryana. He retired as Colonel from Indian Army. He fought bravely in Indo-Pak War 1971. He died in 2006.
