Beriya (बेरिया) Beria (बेरिया) Beeriya/Biria (बीरिया) Ber (बेर) is Gotra of Jats found in Madhya Pradesh. They were supporters of Johiya Federation.

Origin

• Berea Greek city - Beria (बेरिया) Clan of Jats is found in Madhya Pradesh. They were supporters of Johiya Federation. It is matter of research if there is any relation with Berea city of the Macedonia, northern Greece.
• Beriya (बेरिया) gotra is said to have started from their ancestoral king Maharaja Beri Singh.

History

H.A. Rose writes that Jaria (जरिया), a sept of Jats found in Jind. In that state five gots of Jats derive their names from as many parts of the beri tree, viz. :

(i) Rangi, from the rang, or bark of the beri tree used for dyeing,

(ii) Jaria, from jar, the root,

(iii) Beria, from ber, the fruit,

(iv) Jhari, or seedlings, and

(v) Khichar, or bud.

These five gots may however intermarry and are, collectively, called Jaria, which is also said to be derived from jora and to mean ' twin.'

H. A. Rose writes....The Joiyas are brave, but, like the Wattus, addicted to theft. The Lakhwera sept is the highest in the social scale and has a great reputation for courage. The tribe is devoted to horses and buffaloes. No Joiya considers it derogatory to plough with his own hands, but if a man gives up agriculture and takes to trade or handicraft the Joiyas cease to enter into any kind of relationship with him. Sahn Pal is said to have coined his own money at Bhatner, a proof that he exercised sovereign power. Bawa Farid-ud-Din, Shakarganj, converted Lunan, Ber and Wisul to Islam and blessed Lunan, saying " Lunan, dunan, chaunan" i.e., "may Lunan's posterity multiply." These three brothers wrested the fortress of Bhatinda from the Slave Kings of Delhi and ruled its territory, with Sirsa and Bhatner, independently.
