Bhartiya Janata Party
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is a conservative political party in India. It is one of the two major national political parties in the country, along with the Indian National Congress. The BJP traces its origins to the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, founded by Shyama Prasad Mukherjee in 1951.
Since 2014, the party has been the ruling political party of India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ideologically, the BJP is positioned on the right-wing to far-right of the political spectrum and maintains close organisational and ideological links with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a Hindu nationalist paramilitary volunteer organisation. The BJP’s political philosophy is based on Hindutva, which emphasizes Hindu nationalism.
